Migraine – A Psychosomatic Perspective in Ayurveda
Migraine, according to Ayurveda, is considered to be a disorder that arises from the imbalance of the three doshas – Vata, Pitta, and Kapha.
Migraine is type of shira shool which is symbolised having severe pain around the head particularly half region or around eyes.

While the exact causes of migraines can vary from person to person, Ayurveda places a strong emphasis on the mind-body connection in understanding and treating this condition.
From a psychosomatic perspective, Ayurveda believes that migraines can be triggered by emotional stress, anxiety, and psychological factors. These factors can disrupt the balance of the doshas, leading to the manifestation of symptoms like severe headaches, sensitivity to light and sound, and nausea.
Ayurvedic treatments for migraines focus on restoring the balance of the doshas through diet, lifestyle modifications, herbal remedies, and therapies like Shirodhara (oil dripping on the forehead) and Nasya (nasal administration of herbal oils). By addressing both the physical and psychological aspects of migraines, Ayurveda aims to provide holistic and long-lasting relief from this debilitating condition.
